WOYWW #151

It's Wednesday again already and I have a busy day scheduled, which will not be helped by the fact that it is absolutely pouring down.  A very quick desk share today of a hasty, wonky picture of my stamping corner.
All this humiliation for WOYWW!  As you see my stamps are fighting for space with fruit, snacks, children's toys and cookery books.  It's the usual problem of why spend my spare time sorting things out when I could spend it creating.

I was thrilled to have so many visitors last week and I am still returning your calls, slowly but surely.  There was even a question which I will pop over to the relevant blog and answer, promise!  Meanwhile, pop over to Julia's today to see other workspaces and also to read up on important news about the WOYWW 3rd anniversary and the opportunity to share a bit of love with someone who is feeling a tad poorly.

Whiff Of Joy Wedding

I'm going to watch a friend get married this weekend so a card was definitely needed.
I've used a Whiff of Joy stamped image and also the greeting and the brads are from Whiff of Joy too.
The colouring is with Copics and I've used the fabulous new Bazzill paper pad Vintage Marketplace to make the card.  It's designed by Margie Romney-Aslett  previous designer of Girls Paperie, a line I only just managed to discover as it was finishing, doh!  The design of the card is from the out-going sketch challenge at Whiff Of Joy challenges.
There's also a lovely, lacy, doily on there from Poppy's Cabin.

Challenges:
Whiff Of Joy #127 - Sketch
Try It On Tuesday - Craft Barn Supplies Vintage Marketplace
Scrapbook Sisters #80 - Weddings
The Craft Garden - Pastel colours

Purple and Butterfly Love

The weekend seems to have flown by.  The children are in a dance show this weekend at the Royal Albert Hall no less and we are deep into final rehearsals and chasing down the last bits of uniform needed.  On top of this I've signed on to discover that I have to come to terms with a whole new Blogger and I'm not enjoying it I can tell you.

I'm cheering myself up with a little bit of purple love, cos I do loves purple!
I've hardly used this Simply Sassy stamp from the very 1st collection, so it was about time she got herself inked.  She is coloured with Copics with extra emphasis on the purple hair and the background has been shaded with Dusty Concord Distress Ink and a little bit of Black Soot around the edges.
To add to my love of purple I also love to use butterflies on my projects, quite frequently black ones. The saying "The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough." always pops into my head when I use them.

Challenges:
One Stitch At A Time #110 - Anything Goes
Our Creative Corner - Butterflies

2 photos the same

Now this is a technique that I really hadn't considered before.  I think I used it once before with a photo strip but  that's about all.  Challenge #12 at Shimelle's online crop is to use two of the same picture on the one scrapbook page.
I used one unedited picture from a golden wedding party last month and then took the same picture and converted it to black and white, with a bit of extra contrast.

This little guy is cute, but cheeky with it.  He was very well behaved, although the owners of the guest house where it was held didn't think so.  SMO and I decided that it was probably one of those establishments where they didn't allow children to stay.  It was a shame as the place was lovely, but we won't be hiring them ourselves anytime soon!
As I've lots of photos of the day to scrap I focused on his outfit rather than all the details of the event.  He had a collarless shirt and waistcoat on which were smart, but didn't make him look like someone had dressed him as his grandad.

Supplies list:
Jenni Bowlin feed store paper
American Crafts Peachy Keen chipboard and Neapolitan sticker
Basicgrey and Amy Tangerine letters
MLS numbers
Girls Paperie month

Contrasting Patterns

On to challenge #11 from Shimelle's online crop and that was to use 2 contrasting patterned papers one on 2/3 of the page and the other over the remaining 1/3.
I've been hoarding this BoBunny Kitchen Spice paper for ages as I love the colours on it of orange and soft robin's egg blue.  For the 1/3 page I used a grey piece from American Crafts Peachy Keen.
I found some Fancy Pants ribbon and a metalled trimmed Peachy Keen accent that went quite well too.
The other supplies are:
Making Memories felt letters
Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type
Papermania sticky ribbon
MME Miss Caroline sticker

I Spy

What a busy WOYWW day yesterday.  I will be catching up on some blog hopping later but for now I potentially have 3 scrapbook pages to share that I've been working on for the challenges at Shimelle's online crop.  The 1st is for inspiration challenge #5 where there was a page by Wilna Furstenberg to drool over.  She has a great scrapbboking style and I'm quite drawn to her use of panoramic photos and tone on tone butterflies.
The page is about a new hanging bird table I made from an old chopping board and some children's bricks (as part of some work I am doing on a nature resource).  Before I had even returned to the kitchen to fetch my camera I could see a robin hopping about in the pear tree.  When I sneaked outside to take a picture he was eyeing up the new addition to the garden.
Just a few supplies to list:
MME On The Bright Side background paper
SEI Field Notes newsprint paper and stickers
Cath Kidston washi tape
Girls Paperie chipboard letters and month sticker
Sassafras letter stickers
MLS number stickers
Tim Holtz journalling ticket

WOYWW #150 & blood splatters!

It's Wednesday again and so that means workdesk snooping all over the creative world at Julia's blog.  Especially needed today to cheer ourselves up on a wet, horrible morning.

Last night's workdesk for me and it contained these.
Very excited because it's the 1st challenge for Compendium of Curiosity II at Studio L3.  I've made my homemade stamps using fabulous dies from the man himself TIM and used the butterfly stamp to make this.
I broke out some new stains and had a complete nightmare with the Fired Brick Distress Stain.  I thought it would brighten things up but I ended up with blood splatters.  In the end I left it off the finished tag and used it here instead to celebrate the Forever Night Friday 13th challenge.

So if you want blood splatters on your work you know what to do!  To finish off I thought I would show the Dinky Diva's finished collage again, in case any WOYWWers missed it since I didn't post the final picture on a Wednesday.
Have a good one.

Ribbons and Lace

Still recovering from my lunch at the moment, baked bean flavoured cheese!!!  I found a pack of individual cheese portions at the back of the fridge that the children hadn't eaten and thought they had better not go to waste.  If cheese alone can give you nightmares I dread to think of the effect baked bean cheese can have!!!

Whilst I recover I have a card to share.  The new theme for this month's challenge at the Artistic Stamper Creative Team Blog is 'Ribbons and lace.'
I recently bought a set of Wendy Vecchi stamps on E-bay and thought I would break them out of their packet and make a card.  I was really pleased with them and wouldn't hesitate to buy them again, they are well worth the money, really BIG.
The background image has been created using the Distress Ink and water splatter technique, then stamped over with the bingo card from the stamp set.  The flower from the set has then been stamped, inked and built up on kraft card and fixed together with a big WRMK eyelet.  The leaves are from the same set and then I've added the bird from a Tim Holtz die.
The lace on the card is from Fancy Pants and I've used Laura Ashley ribbon on the sentiment, which is a Personal Impressions stamp on a plain ticket.

Challenges:
Artistic Stamper - Ribbons and lace
Sir Stampalot - Happy birthday
Simon Says Stamp And Show - Anything goes

Page 2 For Today

A 2nd scrapbook page for today.  This time using Shimelle's challenge #9 Take Your Pick, where you can follow the rules for any old closed challenge.  I was really pleased about this as I'd previously made up a page for her Starting Points challenge and then not been able to find a photo to go with it.  Probably this was down to the overdose of pink from the Crate Paper Pretty Party and American Crafts Daydreams papers I'd used.  I dug it out anyway and,  having been in scrapbook mode for a few days, found something to use on it straight away.
These cute pictures had recently come down from a multi frame on the wall, which I decided had seen better days.  They were girly enough to go with all the pink and strawberries I'd chosen, but I felt there needed to be a bit of yellow on the page to really tie it in with the pictures.  A bit of punched and cut up MME Dolled Up did the job.
Other supplies are:
Amy Tangerine 6x6 paper Rose's Rendering and some letters
Also letters from BasicGrey, BoBunny and Sassafras
Paperchase washi tape
American Crafts Peachy Keen flower and Neapolitan sticker
Distress Marker for journalling
I know I am not alone when I say that I hate my handwriting.  Other peoples pages look fine, but I always like my layouts before the writing and then feel disappointed in them afterwards.  There is nothing for it, Iguess I shall have to learn to love my writing, that or take calligraphy classes.

Try a new style

Happy Monday morning all, it's crisp and bright here, hope the forecast for rain is wrong.  It can rain overnight though, I'll let it, we need the water.  I've been busy scrapping for Shimelle's online crop from the weekend.  Challenge #3 was to try a new style or incorporate part within your own.

I spent quite some time trying to find an example of the layout that I could see in my head and wanted to try.  I failed!  Karenika kind of comes close, white backgrounds with little or no patterned paper.  Cal already tried something similar, but I thought I would try and make the page that was in my head.

As an aside Shimelle also threw out the question "How do you make your pages?" so I've put together a little slide for this one.  Sorry, the images are in the wrong order.  They are right on Photobucket, but I can't make them work on here!!!
I always have something in mind as a starting point (in this case the pattern of the photos), but it could be a sketch, scraplift or particular supply. I rarely seem to take a photo and start from there, but I hope that will change when I get my 100+ more recent pictures back from the printers.

I've gone for a kraft background rather than white, with kraft embellishments.  It's no coincidence that this is the current challenge at Kraft It Up.
I've used Tim Holtz Chit Chat for the miniature title, Jenni Bowlin butterfly stickers and punched items from Papermania kraft cardstock.
I think there will be a second page to this as there is much more of the story to tell and I didn't feel this style of page lent itself to masses of writing.  I picked just one accent colour and as the Jenni Bowlin butterflies had a little red on them I toned that down and went for orange; using Versacolor and Smooch to splatter the page and punched butterflies.

By The Cute And Girly - mid month

Halfway through April already and time for a little reminder about this month's challenge over at By The Cute And Girly.  The theme is 'Once Upon A Time' and as always we accept entries of any type of crafting - cards, scrapbook pages, canvases, altered items, sewing ................

I just ordered some new 6x6 Kraft cards from one of our sponsors Joanna Sheen and thought I would use one to make a Magnolia card.
I've used Wizard Tilda from the Princes and Princesses collection and combined her with Sweet Moon from the Sweet Crazy Love collection.  All of the colouring is with Copics.
For the card design I've used patterned papers from the new Lily Bee Victoria Park 6x6 pad and then used my old supplies to find some lace and gems.
The greeting is from a little round stamp I bought on Ebay and I've used it to decorate the inside of the card too with co-ordinating papers.
A few challenges I had in mind when I was making my project:
Just Magnolia #152 - Lovely Lace
Colour Create #94 - Yellow, blue and white
Scrapbook Sisters cards #79 - Anything goes

Planning to fit some more crafting in today along with the 'getting ready to go back to school' preparations.

Shimelle's Online Crop - Challenge #1

Shimelle is having an online crop this weekend at her blog.  This means lots of scrapbook pages from me, hopefully, although I still need to get a load of photos onto a disc and down to the print shop.

The 1st challenge is to take inspiration from a lovely page by Jaime Warren.  Her great layout can be seen here and this is my version.
I've picked up on the background colour, embellishment ideas and placement from the original.
There are an awful lot of different supplies I've used, so here goes:
Cosmo Cricket Color Pick Carnation - background paper
MME Dolled Up 6x6 Pad - punched clouds and tickets (and date sticker)
MME On The Bright Side - blue tab
Lily Bee Victoria Park 6x6 pad - punched butterflies
Crate Paper Pretty Party - pink tag
7 Gypsies - big journal block
Bo Bunny - letters
QVC - flowers with pearls replacing the original yellow centres
Whiff Of Joy - pearls
Mr Huey - white splatter dots
Adirondack Color Wash - blue splatter dots
Phew, I think that's all.  Just one thing I need to add and that's a link to the lovely Debs who's clean and fresh approach to her version of the page was also a great source of inspiration to me.

Finished Collage

Here's the Dink Diva's finished collage for her Guide competition.
I think she's done really well and I hope the judges like it.
Here she is doing the doodling and shading on the work in progress.
Took a few photos in the garden yesterday as the pear tree is in blossom.
At least one busy bee pollinating it for me, so hopefully lots of pears this Autumn (there's more of these pictures over at my nature photography blog).

The Camellia didn't look so good though.  The petals are brown even before the buds have fully opened.

Special Numbers

It's the 200th Sunday Stamper challenge this week over at Hels blog and the theme is numbers.
I've gone for a mini mixed media card in 3x5 inches for the skinny challenge at Take A Word.
Most of my supplies were free with magazines, including the paper, stencils and stamps!  I've added Pink Paislee numbers and run-ons from DCWV and Creative Imaginations.
Challenges:
Sunday Stamper #200 - Numbers
Take A Word - Skinny 3x5 inches
Moving Along With The Times #144 - Shabby chic and/or vintage

The Dinky Diva is just putting the finishing touches to her project, so it should be ready to share tomorrow.

Time For Something Sweet

As dear Pooh would say "Time for something sweet!"  I've been having great fun with all my projects, but I've been missing my colouring.  Here's my latest Handy Hippo project to put that right.
Here's how I made it:
 - Cut a 6x8 inch piece from American Crafts Blush cardstock. Score along the longer edge at 2 and 4 inches, then fold up to make the easel base.
- Cut BasicGrey Camelia paper to make panels to cover the card leaving a small edge of pink showing.
- Die cut a piece of the same paper and stamp the Stampendous sentiment on.  Attach it to the card base with 3d foam.
- Stamp the Penny Black birthday image and colour with Promarkers.  Mat onto a piece of the Blush card with a small border showing.
- Edge all of the panels with Diamond Stickles.
- Take 2 daisy shaped wooden flowers and colour white with a gel pen, stick them onto white card and cut out.
- Attach to the flowers to the card base and to finish off add a yellow pearl centre to the flowers and matching yellow pearls to the edge of the main image.
All of the supplies I've used can be found at Handy Hippo and this link will take you to a basket pre-filled with them all (the basket can be edited to remove or add any items you require).
