Kathy's Waffle Tag

I've made a Halloween themed tag using the July sketch from Kathy's Waffle Sketch File.
Lots of Distress Ink, a piece of Tim's original kraft resist paper and tissue tape.  The stamps are from Pink Paislee Phantom collection.  The kraft paper works so well with the ink over the top.
My main 2012 holiday took place over Halloween and I have plenty of pictures still to scrap, so the plan is for this tag to become part of one of the pages.
So much crafting, so little time!

Summer Reading

In preparation for the summer holidays, and a few camping trips and overnight stays, I've ordered some paperbacks - nice bright ones!
The top 2 are second hand so they can be thrown in a kit bag and dropped into puddles without guilt.  Death Comes To Pemberley is due to be televised soon.  I want to get in there and read it 1st, it's a sequel to Pride And Prejudice with a P D James crime in the mix.

I'm pretty impressed by most of Anthony Horowitz's work, Foyle's War being top of the list, so I thought I'd see how he treats Sherlock Homes.

Revenge Wears Prada is new out and the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.  Loved the film, but haven't read the original book, the sequel piqued my interest.

Also borrowed Lisa Kleypas Crystal Cove when I was waiting around at the children's dance exams the other day.  It didn't look like my type of book and the cover photo did it no favours, but the blurb threw some magic into the romance mix so you never know.

I'll let you know how I got on with them all.

New season finds

I've had my eye on the new season releases and, as well as the new colour Distress Markers and the latest Magnolia stamps that are already in my craft stash, there are a few other things that have made my wish list.

Tim Holtz never fails to impress and in particular this season I have my eye on the new stencils as well as
some bottle and quill dies.

Wendy Vecchi has new stencils out too and an amazing vintage colours in Archival Ink.  This Simon Says Stamp demo video shows how she's exploited the properties of Archival Ink to look at stenciling in a whole new way.

As for paper lines nothing seasonal has really made me jump up and shout "I must have that!"  but, I will be taking a closer look at BasicGrey Persimmon, Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste, Rhonna Farrer Chalk Studio and Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party.

Let me know if you've spotted any great new products coming up this season.

Thank You

Time seems to be precious and scarce at the moment combined with the heat to make energy levels low. Thunderstorms last night have done nothing to reduce the humidity, so we are in for another hot and sticky day today.  Believe it or not, there are still some children in school here in England.  Whilst many are well into their holidays we're still waiting for them to truly start.  We kept things simple for teachers this year, hand cream or notebooks finished with a personalised tag, rather than a card.
I let the children loose with a jar of washi tape and the results were very effective.  There are tapes here from Paperchase, Papermash, Tim Holtz, Cath Kidston, Amy Tangerine and more.

School officially finishes tomorrow, let the summer holiday begin!

MINE! mine! MINE! mine!

I said they would be mine as soon as they reached the UK and thanks to Craft Obsessions mailing list I was able to pre-order them once the release was announced.
They arrived in my sticky mitts earlier in the week and I made this little card on thick watercolour paper to test them out.  I think they are the colours I have wanted from the off and are certainly my favourites in the Distress line, I use the equivalent ink pads way more than the original colours.
The little stamp is from PaperArtsy, the parrot just appealed to me.  I've used the fibres that came with my Craft Obsessions order and a bit of washi tape just to finish the card off ready to go in my stand-by box.
Challenges:
Craft Garden - Train or bird

We love camping!!!

Spent last weekend in the New Forest camping in glorious sunshine.  The heat was a little overwhelming at times.  Once the sun reached our tent about 9am you couldn't spend much time inside before about 4pm and we'd picked a nice shady spot.

Here's the gang around the communal camp fire.
Lots of high adventure pictures to scrapbook.  The older children tried archery, zipwire, crate stacking, raft building and tree climbing.

Now I just have to tidy everything away and clean the layer of dirt off everything!!

Summer Fun - Blue Moon Beads

Summer has definitely arrived in the UK.  The sun is bright, the sky is blue and the first strawberries from the garden have been picked and eaten!  Those strawberries inspired my first new season creations for Blue Moon Beads.
They are made using fabulous strawberry glass lamp-work beads and, like natural strawberries, no two are exactly the same.
I've used Blue Moon Beads findings to create a bracelet and earrings set perfect to wear to summer picnics and concerts in the park.

Cute

July is here and it's time for a new sketch at Kathy's Waffle Sketch File.  I've scrapbooked with it, remembering to use a title this time!
The colour scheme comes from Melissa Stinson's aqua and bold pink inspiration over on her Scrappy Jedi blog.  I've added the dark brown wood grain to the palette for some contrast, but mainly because when I was looking for a background paper I liked the look of it!
The patterned papers are from Amy Tangerine the wood grain is Coffee Break from the Ready Set Go collection.  The other pieces are scraps I had from the Sketchbook collection, as is the round die-cut.  The big camera is from an old magazine freebie that I'd saved.  I knew I would want that camera at some point and the colours go well with the page.  The other strip of cameras is there to cover up a stamping incident where I managed to place a cute sentiment upside down.  They are from Bo Bunny's Mama Razzi 2, not a great colour match, but I was getting a bit frustrated with myself at that point.
What else have I used.  The stencil is from Crafters Workshop and I've sprayed it with Dylusions in Bubblegum Pink.  Washi tape from Papermash and the big letter stickers are from an ancient sheet by Sassafras that I've been hording.  No journaling as the title is focused on what I rally wanted to say.

Pop over to Kathy's Waffle Sketch File to see a couple of versions of the sketch as well as some lovely cards.
