Bling on 2011!!

Happy New Year to one and all!!!

It's 01.01.11 and time for the January challenge at By The Cute And Girly .

This month our newest team member Tammy has chosen the theme of 'Bling It On' and she's looking to see glitter and sparkle in the challenge entries.

My Grafico is our digi sponsor this month and I've used a mushroom from the Stick Fairies set to make the template and decorations for this card.
I've filled in the My Grafico design with glitter card and added glittered punched circles. The fairy on the top is from the same set to finish things off.

My second make this month is a little notebook decorated in black and red.
I've used DCWV cardstock and papermania vinyl stickers and gems to complete the decorations.

Our full set of sponsors this month are:

So lots of lovely prizes to be won with your 'Bling' projects.

I'd like to enter my fairy card into the Moving along with the Times challenge #79 - Birthdays and circles.

On the 5th day of Christmas....

Last time I blogged it was the Wednesday before Christmas, I blinked and now it's the Wednesday after Christmas!

It's WOYWW of course (check out Julia's blog here to see what everyone has been up to this week). Here is a pic of my new Christmas stash, some expected, some unexpected, but all very welcome.
Here are the little people enjoying Christmas:

The Dinky Diva

Branston Pickle - "Fingers off that tree!"
Small-N-Grubby hiding behind a mound of presents
And the boys playing with their new goodies on Christmas morning.
Finally a Christmas message from the commander in chief.

WOYWW - Christmas

It's the last Wednesday before Christmas and time to share Christmas workspaces over at Julia's Stamping Ground.

My desk still contains several blank picture frames. My attempt at one failed so badly I had to bin it and have a rethink. The photos I was using weren't large enough for the aperture and so I had planned frames within a frames, but it just looked awful.

Did have a relatively successful attempt at my 1st Christmas cake.
Discovered I didn't have a cake tin the right size and so split the mixture between some loaf tins and didn't put quite enough in. But I think it will be edible. 8 inch round cake tin goes on my sales shopping list, perhaps I will treat myself to one of those silicone ones.

Happy Christmas WOYWWers one and all.

Mini Make

The top of my tree was looking a little bare so I cut a Sizzix star and added a little Tilda fairy painted with Distress inks and some glitter.I'd planned to make Christmas cards with trees on and this little Tilda at the top, but it never happened. I'll get some done for next year - famous last words!

A few challenges:
Allsorts #83 - Anything goes
Bunny Zoe #7 - Sparkle and shine

*** SMO Update *** He has made it home. Walked for about 3 miles in the snowy countryside and even found a pub to sit in. His texts made it sound a lot more arduous!!

It can't be the 20th.......

One minute it was the 13th and the next another week had gone.

We've had a busy weekend with lots of snow that looks like it is here to stay, it's been snowing all day. But, will it be a white Christmas? I can't remember one since I was about 5. It would be a shame to suffer this much disruption now and not wake up to silent, gleaming snow on Christmas morning.

We had the church Christmas parties at the weekend. Here we are making our way there.....
..........via Narnia.
There was the usual eats and a visit from Santa for the little ones.
Then, after they went home, there was a laser disco and all things fluorescent for the older ones.
Unfortunately the numbers were well down because of the weather, but those that went threw themselves into the party mood.

Sunday saw the long awaited Christmas dance show that the children had been rehearsing for since the summer. It was held in the Art Centre here.......
The Dinky Diva and Small-N-Grubby sung, danced and tapped their was through a 2 hour show and made sure that everyone knew that Christmas was truly on the way.

A late night has meant bad moods today though, and they are a pair of tired grumps. The Branston Pickle has another cough and cold and the three of them are arguing and fighting the day away.

Meanwhile, SMO left at 7am this morning to catch a 15 minute train to a nearby sports hall for a 2 day winter cricket coaching session. By 9am he was snowed in and had to call the whole thing off. A friend tried to drive them both home but they have had to abandon the car and were last heard of trying to walk out to a point where there was less snow and friends could pick them up.

** Update ** they have made it to a friends house in a village on the way home and are hoping to drive into town this afternoon, although the steady light snow we have had here is now getting heavier.

Card Catch-up

Not sure if all of these cards will have reached their destination yet, but as the recipients won't know they're getting them I thought I would blog them for a few challenges anyway.

1st off, one of my quick, yet hopefully elegant ;) cards made thin for posting.
This Papermania embossing folder is lovely and I hope to make many more cards with it for next year. I'm entering this for Allsorts #82 - Last minute Christmas and sadly, sniff, sniff the last ever Caardvarks - Monochrome. Also Kaboodle Doodles #46 - Clean and simple Christmas and Fab & Funky #53 - Quick and easy does it.

The next is a Sugar Nellie Simply Sassy. I bought the 1st set of these that came out and now I want them ALL!!
I've used some Patchwork Pals card and a Hero Arts message to go with this one, as well as a bit of Tim's Tissue Tape. The flowers were from a QVC pack. I'm entering this one for Oh Alice #43 - Red and green + one.
Next is a bit of Holly for the Penny Black Saturday challenge #131 - The Holly and the Ivy.
A cutie hedgehog with the rest of the supplies all by Anna Griffin.
Last, but by no means least. Using a photo I had taken of a Christmas candle and adding a Lucia Tilda coloured lightly with Copics, I've made one more card.
Challenges for this one are, Just Magnolia #85 - Christmas card and Keep It Simple - Season's Greetings.
With that I declare my Christmas cards 2010 well and truly completed!

A Christmas Wish

Not really posting twice in one day. More of a continuation of this morning's post had I finished the card in time (still had to photograph it before the glue was dry.)

I've inked the background with Distress inks with a border of stamped and masked fir trees (a Serendipity stamp). Tilda is from the latest Magnolia Merry Little Christmas designs and she is coloured with Copics and liberally glittered with Diamond Stickles.

ICopic #9 - Light blue, dark blue and white
Copic Creations #41 - Sparkle
Daring Cardmakers - Snow much fun
Simon Says Stamp - Silver, blue and white
Ladybug Crafts Ink - Winter Wonderland

A quick WOYWW (check out Julia's blog if you don't know what I'm on about). I've got a couple of competition entries to finish so I'm WOYWWing at speed today.

Current projects waiting to be filled and decorated for Christmas presents.
Don't quite know when that's going to happen!!

And I thought I would leave you will my tree this year.
As indestructible as possible with the Branston Pickle on fine form. I really need to make something for the top too.
## Please note decorations hung by small children in a 'stick 'em all on one branch style' whilst singing Mickey Mouse's 12 days of Christmas. Smo's Donald Duck impression has to be heard to be believed!!!

Not A Card

There's a few Christmas challenges about at the moment that involve not making a card so I thought I would enter this little ornament.Tilda's been stamped onto Stampboard and then I have coloured around her to look like tree branches using Distress inks. I've also coloured her in with the same inks. Then it was on to the fun scrapey bit. I scraped a few highlights on her dress and hair and then some to give a sprinkling of snow falling around her. Once I had punched a hole in it with my Crop-a-dile BigBite the whole piece was embossed with UTEE 3 times to give a smooth finish. This didn't fill all the snowflake holes so that they still stand out a little. Finally I rubbed the edges in a rough gold embossing powder and heated them up being careful to melt the gold without over heating the UTEE. Done!

Bunny Zoe's #6 - Christmas not a card
Wild Orchid #11 - Old Fashioned Christmas

Before I go I just wanted to mention a couple of wins I have had lately and say thank you to the organisers.

Magnolia-licious Highlites November - Shaker card
Sketches In Thyme #26 - Snowy Cottage LO
(did you see my great blinky on the side bar!)

Thank you very much to organisers and sponsors it is very much appreciated.

Flat Cards

Whilst writing my Christmas cards I realised that I had not made enough 'flat' ones for posting. I'd got too carried away with the 3d foam and paper flowers. More cards needed then, so I spent yesterday evening in front of Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives colouring in with my Copics. This morning I've started making them up.

The 1st is Willow freezing, I think?
I've stamped her a lovely Alota sleigh to sit on and really she looks a little ungrateful shivering away there! The background paper is from BoBunny and apart from a bit of glitter and a sentiment I haven't added anything else.
Whiff Of Joy #93 - Christmas no red or green
Stamp Something - Christmas colour combo
Onto the 2nd card.
Tilda this time, with a BoBunny background again and a Brenda Pinnick chipboard. I couldn't resist getting the holly punch out so more, I couldn't possibly leave it off with this theme.
Magnolia Down Under #75 - Patchwork background
Tuesday Taggers - Deck the halls
A Spoon Full of Sugar #133 - Christmas card
Keep It Simple - Deck the halls

Wednesday, December 8

Running late today as I have been on a mission to excavate the cupboard under the stairs in search of the Christmas tree. The smaller of the 2 options is now nestled safely beside me in its box. How long it will stay there waiting to be put up is any ones guess!
To the uninitiated this may look like a crazy mess but those that have visited on a Wednesday before with see I have had a tidy. I know, wonders will never cease. (If you have no idea what I'm on about, pop over to Julia's and check out the other WOYWWers). I decided to have a good sort of my papers and as some of them were buried on the desktop I had no choice but to clear it off a bit.

This card is my latest project.
I made it with a particular friend in mind and went a bit mad with the colour scheme thinking of hot desert areas where kings might roam on camels.
Penny Black Saturday #130 - Stamp on non-white card
Simon Says Stamp And Show - Holiday Greeting
Artistic Stamper - Christmas
The Stampman - Christmas, any 3 colours
Sir Stampalot - Travel the world
Penny Black at Allsorts - Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Penny Black stamp - To follow the star
Stamped on BasicGrey - Curio
BoBunny - Believe background papers
Papermania - Sticky ribbon
Tim Holtz - Tissue tape
Dovecraft- Sticky pearls
Personal Impressions - Holly punch

A little bit of snow

We just caught the edge of the snowy weather last week and instead of blogging the picture I took I decided a scrapbook page was needed.
It's the first time it's snowed since the Branston Pickle got a playhouse and it really made me think of Snow White's cottage. Unfortunately he has been too ill with a cough and cold to be out playing in it in the snow, but I think he will more than likely get another chance this winter with the way things have been going.

On the page I used an old doily as a mask to spray the background along with a Tattered Angels icicle mask. It all came together in a weird and wonderful way that I was quite happy with.
The slight twinkle of the spray on the background paper is just visible in the picture above. For the flowers I also sprayed them with a bit of gold Perfect Pearls in water and Distress Ink, to make them a bit darker before stamping them with a musical image.

Sketches In Thyme - Creative Scrappers sketch
Fussy & Fancy #125 - Anything but a card

Glimmer Mist - Hydrangea
Glimmer Screens - Vintage Ice
Papaermania - White flowers, skeleton leaf
VersaMagic ink - Oasis green
Donna Salazar stamp - Holly harmony
Wild Orchid Crafts - Crystal Stem
Lakeland - Brads
My Minds Eye - Paper trim
Paperchase - Toadstool stickers
Making Memories - Noteworthy page
Brenda Pinnick - Letters
Woodware - Double clip
And finally I think the swirl was in a a little craft pack sent to me by Kath - Thank You!

By The Cute and Girly and WOYWW

Can you believe it's the 1st of December already? The 1st means a new theme at By The Cute And Girly - 'Children'. It's also Wednesday which means WOYWW and this is what has been on my workdesk and occupying all my spare crafting time over the last couple of weeks.

12 Days of Christmas Chocolates
Strictly for me these ones!! I've recycled the box that held the chocs and covered it with My Minds Eye Christmas paper. I had to replace the acetate too and I've added a few K&Co snowflakes as well.
Each choc is covered in Melissa Frances paper and then has one of Penny Black's 12 days stamps on it.

Door Hanger
I've used the We R Memory Keepers Sew Easy tool for my stitching. I got it from Craft Obsessions. I'm sort of getting the hang of it and it definitely gives me neater stitches than when I just free-hand stitch.
The stamp is by Crafts UK and is one I bought for last years Christmas cards.

Last and by no means least.
Rainy Day Box
We used to have one of these when I was little. it didn't have things to do in it, just things to look at. Pictures, scraps and mementos. It was often brought out if we were ill and had to stay in bed.
I've made mine from the largest of the set I was sent by the DotComGiftShop. I've covered it with writing paper from Paperchase and decorated it with images from one of this month's sponsors at By the Cute And Girly, Fred She Said.

The design is available in a digi set called Smelling the Cherry Blossoms. The flowers are cut from the same set and I've added a fan button for a little more dimension.

Our other sponsors at By The Cute And Girly this month are:

That's about it from me. Hopefully it won't be another week before I blog again, but coughs and colds are doing the rounds and seem to be monopolising my time at the moment.

Sewing Gift

I've finally completed the transformation of one of the boxes sent to me by DotComGiftShop. The boxes are currently out of stock, but there are lots of other yummy alterable bits here.
I've used Websters pages again and teamed them with bits from K&Co and a paper tape measure made using a Cuttlebug embossing plate.
The little burlap buttons are by Nicki Saville but were very kindly sent to me by Kath, thank you.
There's a little sewing machine stamp on one side and a similar sized set of pinking shears on the other. Both from a Hero Arts set - another £2.99 Hobbycraft bargain. The trim around the lid of the box is by Papermania.
I've filled it with bits and bobs and there's plenty of room to fit in lots more.
I'm entering this for A Spoonful Of Sugar challenge #131, 'Anything Goes'.
I have another couple of boxes underway, one for By The Cute And Girly's December DT makes, so there's plenty to keep me going!
