All on a sunny afternoon

It's been a lovely day here. I've spent it with just the Branston Pickle catching up on some much needed gardening. The others have gone to a car boot sale so goodness knows what they'll come back with. I've had a lot of assistance from my little helper, so lots of digging and weeding but not a lot of planting done.

He's been very busy doing this...........
and this.................
and eventually fell asleep whilst eating a choccie ice cream.
While he snoozed I was able to quickly turn this.....
into this........
and the reverse...........
Tag You're It this week is 'Heaven Sent' and Sunday Stampers #105 is 'Wings'.

There's a party in the local park today which I normally go to but as Branston's a bit young and just a bit of a Pickle we've listened to the music from the garden instead. Tunes for gardening to and now tunes for cooking the tea to.
And all on a sunny afternoon!

White Tag

Just time today for a quick tag made of the left over white card from my current project. The theme this week at Tag You're It is 'A whiter shade of pale'.
Did I mention there were flowers waiting for me when I got home last Sunday?

Shimelle's Class

The 1st class I took at Scrap-a-mia was with Shimelle. It was quite a challenge as 2 hours is not long enough time to suck all the creative ideas out of the her head!

We worked on a 6x4 mini book with a very generous Cosmo Cricket kit - as julia commented yesterday, loads of leftovers. One of the reasons there was so much left is that Shimelle's ideas used up every last scrap of paper and all those message blocks with wording on that don't match with your project were upcycled to fit.
The pictures are of the unbound book. I have the personal journalling to do yet.
The subject is of a shoot I did using a Bumbo, which is a funny little seat that pre-walking children can be plopped into so that they sit nicely and can't get out mwahhaha.
The cover is still not made. I haven't a photo left to go on it so I think I will cut a window in it to show the photo through from which ever I choose to be the 1st page.
We haven't seen the original covers yet, but they are made from a mini pizza box which I'm sure I brought home with me but can't quite lay my hands on at the moment (see photos from yesterday and you'll know why).
I was a photo short so I decided to turn one of the original page ideas into a private message about my little Branston Pickle.
At a couple of the classes I sat opposite Mel and Jenny(I have a photo of them in a group shot that I must dig out). They like their workspace neat and I think working with me might have raised their stress levels. They attempted to tidy me at times with comments like 'Is that a bin bag for the rubbish over there?', but there's no getting away from the fact that I thrive in organised chaos.

Must not forget a photo of Shimelle, she made us promise to use only nice photos so I hope this one's approved of.
Need to start e-mailing some photos around that I promised people. I've cancelled some of my plans for the weekend to create a bit of at home time, I might even get my suitcase unpacked!!

What Workdesk?

Took some photos yesterday to blog and never quite got there so I have incorporated them into today's post for What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.

My desk is becoming renowned for being messy but quite honestly it is now a bomb site. Scrap-a-mia kits, goodies and scraps have exploded all over it.
On the top of the desk is the kit I think I will get finished next from Shimelle's class. I just have the covers to do.

It's even spilling over on to the floor in front. There's my canvas waiting to go on the wall, a bag stuffed full of kits and other goodies, as well as a box of extra long papers I needed to dig out for some DT work.

The pictures I took yesterday were of my haul of new products. You can't go away for the weekend to a crafting event and not buy anything. That would be illegal, surely?

I bought this little lot, and also a new Distress ink pad and blending tool.
Lots of Melody Ross stash, a pad of Websters pages and some Dear Lizzy chipboards.

There was also a big charity raffle where I was lucky enough to win a set of Banana Frog stamps.
Plenty there to keep even me busy. Don't forget to buzz over to Julia's blog to nosey at everyone elses workdesks this week. Next week is the WOYWW 1st anniversary with a WOYWWAC (anniversary challenge). Full details on Julia's Stamping Ground blog.

Monday, May 24

I'm finally home and back with my lovely family but what an amazing weekend. The hottest so far this year, spent at the most incredible, well organised scrapbooking retreat with fabulous new friends and tip top teachers.

It was my 1st scrapbook retreat and a 1st event for Scrap-a-mia too, so I have nothing to compare it with, but if all events are made this way I want to go to a million more.

I've so much to share that I will probably have to spread out the blog updates over the week.

First of all the venue. A pretty top notch place, called New Place in Southampton.
This is the VIP drop off area at the front where the gravel was raked into perfect circles.
There were many different buildings all set in beautiful grounds, (which SMO was delighted to hear, even included a cricket pitch).
There were a few niggles but most related to the boiling weather that took everyone by surprise.

I arrived on the Friday night to settle in and explore. A luxury I would highly recommend. I had been very nervous. A first timer at this type of event, going on my own. I think if it wasn't for the people I met that evening I would have fled back home. So thanks to Claire, Margaret, Sam, Rachel, Janet, Eileen and Olga for helping me settle in. Pictures of them, and my other new scrapping pals that made my weekend, later.

Eventually found that our event for the weekend was based here.
Not in the tree house, which was all set up to seat about 8 people with tables and flipchart.
Although it would have been nice!

There were 6 classes laid on over the 2 days with extra events on the Saturday evening. I've come home with 3 pages, 2 mini books and 2 'off the page' projects. I'm not going to go through the classes in order as I want to share the projects as I complete them with the finishing touches at home. I did get 2 completely finished whilst I was there.

A fabulous canvas taught by Cleo Jarvis (you can see some of her projects from classes taken last year here). This is her with her expertly finished project.
And this is my one.
There's loads of little details.
and you can mix in lots of little photos.
This is a page I completed in Ifa Zainon's class.
You can see Ifa's beautiful original work here.
I think I would try this technique again, using very small photos on a page. The approach was fun too painting and splashing on colour without measuring and positioning all the items first.
That's it for today. Need to catch up on family time, complete my other Scrap-a-mia projects and finish getting my By The Cute and Girly projects ready for the June challenge.

Little Chicken

Made a quick (ish) card for today to keep me occupied so I don't think too much about leaving my crew behind later on.
I bought the Sugar Nellie stamp recently on Ebay, I really like the ones designed by Elizabeth Bell. I've used the sketch from Moving Along With The Times #47.
Colours were chosen to suit Colour Create #45 - soft green and light aqua (with optional butterflies).

Creative Inspirations #61 has 'Card for a Child' as it's theme and I think this one would definitely suit one of the Dinky Diva's friends. Lastly A Spoonful of Sugar #104 has the theme 'Cute and Girly'.
Quick close up of the image.
I've had a go at the dotty border technique. Quite fun but needs lots of practice to be light handed enough for the fine dots.

That's it for me I'll be off soon if I can drag myself away. Do you think anyone will notice if I sneak my family in inside my suitcase?

A couple more bits completed

After a few false starts yesterday (lots of untying knots!) I finished the necklace I wanted to make.
This morning when I came to update my blog I had to re-boot as the connection wasn't working. So whilst I waited I had a play around with some Staz-on ink and BoBunny stamps.
It's a canvas A4 bag from WHSmith that I have all my paperwork in for the weekend. I'd already attached a big flower to the mesh section on the front with an owl badge from Accessorise, giving it an owl theme.
Time to sort my clothes out for tomorrow. Desperately trying to get some to dry but the sun has deserted us today.

Wednesday, May 19

A speedy update from me today as I just seem to be busy, busy, busy.

Didn't have too late a night last night but I am still a bit tired this morning. Here's my desk.
The main project going on is my mini album using My Little Shoebox supplies.

A quick swing across to the bed shows that I have my jewellery kit out as I fancied a new necklace, heaven knows why when I am too busy.
That's it for me, check out Julia's blog and have a nosey at some other peoples work spaces. I'll catch up with everybody tomorrow.

Whiff of Mid-week

Whiff of the Weekend seems to have slipped a bit and we've almost reached mid-week. Here's my entry for the Whiff of Joy guest designer challenge over at Katharina's blog.

The challenge is to use red and orange plus one other colour, which I chose as green! I've sat my WOJ stamp on a Pink Paislee journalling block tipped over on it's side. The patterned paper is from K&Co and I've used my new mini mini butterfly stamp.

I got the little heart charms recently from Crafts U Love, it says 'made with love'. I've put a plain panel inside the card with just a mini mini butterfly cut out of the corner.

Trying to finish an album to take with me at the weekend but it just isn't coming together. I'm wandering over to a friends this evening for a chat and can't decide whether to take it with me or just have a total break from it.

Tag You're It!

I have been very disappointed with Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint today. I was making a tag for this week's theme at Tag You're It - 'Vintage Romance' and I wanted to highlight the movie star image. I coated it with the crackle stuff and all the distress ink on the image ran.
I would have hoped that the 2 products from the same company would have been compatible. I haven't had any success with this stuff yet. Is it giving anyone else problems?

So, I had to completely re-do my tag and this is what I came up with.
The main stamp is Paperartsy and the swirls are Kanban. The little butterfly is from a Technique Tuesday set. I'm also entering it for this week's Sunday Stamper challenge #103, where the theme is 'Red'.

I've started on a few more ATCs for the weekend. I've got this far.........
thinking it may need a bit more something, perhaps some doodles.

Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny ..........

I've spent any spare time I have had over he last couple of days finishing off this desktop holiday countdown project for One Stitch at a Time challenge #12 'Going Dotty' - quite an appropriate theme for me!
I've used a digi image from Stitchy Stamps and printed off the polka dot background too. I then put the polka dots back through the printer and printed the 'short shorts' image again so that I could cut out her clothes with spots on.

The papers are all K&Co Citronella, including the bunting which has been made with a small triangle punch from Personal Impressions. Bunting is the theme at the Daring Card Makers this week, so I'm entering that too.

The large letter and number stamps are from Penny Black and I've used them with Memento Paris Dusk ink.

Thursday, May 13

I've finished my notebook ready to take to Scrap-a-mia. Have I mentioned I'm going there yet? Only a million gazillion times.
The digi image was a coloured and ready to print freebie from Kirsty. All the other papers and embellishments are K&Co. I've stamped lots of images on the dividers in plain black for inspiration. As I haven't completed any challenges for a while I thought I would enter this in the Sir Stampalot May challenge - Butterflies and Blossoms (I don't think you have to stamp anything???)

Actually spent some time in the garden yesterday, unfortunately not my own. The Branston Pickle decided to give mum a hand with some digging.
There's some lovely blossoms with signs of fruits to come like apples........
and strawberries....................
There was also this lovely lilac flowering.
Lilac has to be one of my favorites.
